Lia (리아 lia), born as Choi Ji-su (최지수), is a South Korean singer and rapper under JYP Entertainment. She is a vocalist of the South Korean girl group ITZY.
Personal life
Lia lived in Toronto, Canada for three years while she was in elementary school. She later attended North London Collegiate School Jeju in South Korea.
While in Canada, Lia auditioned for SM Entertainment and was accepted into the company, but dropped out due to her parents' disapproval.[2]
On January 11, 2024, Lia opened her personal Instagram account.
Career
Predebut
On January 20, 2019, Lia was officially revealed as a member of ITZY through Prologue Film. Her first teaser photo with the group was released 4 days later, along with the individual being released on the 29th.
2019-present: ITZY
On February 12, 2019, Lia debuted with the single album IT'z Different as the main vocalist and rapper of ITZY.[3]
On February 12, 2019, she graduated from School of Performing Arts Seoul.[4]
Sometime later in November, Lia and Super Junior Leeteuk were chosen as MC's for the 9th Gaon Chart Music Awards.[5]
On January 3, 2022, she released her first solo OST "Always Be Your Star" for the drama The Red Sleeve and her second "Blue Flower" for the drama Alchemy of Souls 2 on December 18, 2022.
On May 26, 2023, she released her third solo OTS "One Hundred Love" for the drama Dr. Romantic 3.
On September 18, 2023, JYP Entertainment announced via ITZY's official fan community that she would be going into a temporary hiatus as she was suffering from extreme tension and anxiety about carrying out her scheduled activities and received medical advice that she needs rest and treatment.[6] The same day, shposted a handwritten letter to fans on ITZY’s Instagram account.[7]
Two months later, on November 17, 2023, updates about Lia continuing hiatus and her absence in the production of ITZY's second full album 'BORN TO BE' were shared. It was also revealed that she was diagnosed with anxiety disorder as a result of examination from a specialized medical institution.[8] The same day, Lia's solo track 'Blossom' was released in remedation for Lia's absence in future group activities. Lia also posted a handwritten letter to update fans about her condition on ITZY's Instagram account.[9]
On February 25, 2024, she was seen attending ITZY's opening concert of their 2nd World Tour in Seoul.
On July 8, 2024, JYP Entertainment announced the return of Lia to her activities with ITZY.[10]
On November 30, she released her fourth solo OTS "Why Not" for the drama The Fiery Priest 2. Soon after on December 22, she released her fifth solo OST "WOODAHE" for the drama The Tale of Lady Ok on December 22, 2024.
