GUE?? WHO is the fourth mini album by South Korean girl group ITZY. It was released on April 30, 2021, with "In the morning" serving as the title track.

The physical album comes in three versions: DAY, NIGHT, and DAY&NIGHT.

Background

On March 21, 2021, ITZY released the first poster for their upcoming album, GUESS WHO. This was posted alongside pre-order information and a preview of the album content.

JYP Entertainment said in a statement that the upcoming release will feature a sound that "come as a surprise for their fans". The label added that the group "would come up with offbeat dance moves and styling to showcase something different this time". On April 12, 2021, the group unveiled the track listing to the EP on the group's official SNS accounts and website, revealing "Mafia in the Morning" as the lead single.

The album was promoted on music shows with the title track "In the morning" from April 30 to June 25. The song "Sorry Not Sorry" was used for follow-up promotions from May 20 to 23.

Composition

“ On April 30th, ITZY makes a worldwide comeback with their new album ‘GUESS WHO’ and title song ‘In the morning’. ITZY’s been getting love from Millennials and Gen-Z with their confidence in expressing themselves and has been captivating K-pop fans worldwide with impeccable singing and performance. Their unrivalled existence as the ‘representative of the 4th gen girl groups’ once again resonates their stardom with the new, wild, and sensational album ‘GUESS WHO’. ‘In the morning’ which derives interest by the name itself, completes the unique color of ITZY, enhancing each member’s character individually. The curious song inspired by the party game, Mafia game, sings a message of approaching with their emotions under a veil and capturing the heart of their loved one. The new visual concept which exceeds our expectation is entertaining to look at, seizing the eyes of worldwide fans. The 5 members show two drastically different versions of themselves, ‘DAY’ and ‘NIGHT’, with bold outfits that will heighten your excitement. ITZY’s been captivating us with their ever-changing looks, but this time they depict their emotions more delicately than ever, completing the more dramatic album. The music video sets a high-tension mood, which is based on the Mafia game, showing psychological warfare between various appearance of ITZY. The members arouse the viewers’ curiosity by hiding their true emotions in the daytime and then doing a one eighty in the nighttime, entertaining us with different forms of themselves like movie characters. It throws hidden clues throughout the music video, and asks the viewers to ‘GUESS WHO’ the mafia is. ‘In the morning’ was perfected all-around by JYP’s representative producer J. Y. Park’s lyrics, music, instrumentation, and vocal directing. Production team LYRE who worked with ITZY for the first time, showed high synergy with ITZY. On top of that, danke, earattack, Haesol Lee, and KASS, who’ve worked with numerous K-pop star groups including TWICE, BTS, IU, EXO, also collaborated on the album, producing a magnificent result. Including the title song ‘In the morning’, there are 6 songs in the album: ‘In the morning’, 'Sorry Not Sorry', 'KIDDING ME', 'Wild Wild West', 'SHOOT!', 'TENNIS (0:0), and the impressive credits make us believe the album will be the best of all time. The second track ‘Sorry Not sorry’ was composed by a famous composer Eunji Sim, and the lyrics were written by JQ, who’s worked with Tae-yeon, NCT 127 and Red Velvet in the past. The song delivers the message of the unwavering identity of ITZY, which is ‘We’re ready to show the world more than we have, and we’re going higher’. The third track ‘KIDDING ME’ is mostly Kobee’s work, who has collaborated with ITZY with ‘Not Shy’. The song pleases the listeners by warning people who hurt others with their words by saying “That’s enough, don’t say you’re joking.
