CHECKMATE is the fifth mini album by South Korean girl group ITZY. It was released on July 15, 2022, with "SNEAKERS" serving as the title track.

The physical album comes in six versions: five standard editions (Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong & Yuna) and one limited edition.

Composition

“ Wearing a new visual, ITZY shows a confident attitude of “knowing how to express oneself honestly” and “enjoying my own path.” The music video, which depicts awakening the value of freedom through the medium of "SNEAKERS" (sneakers), draws attention to their presence as they 'take a big step toward a better future.' Their trademark military dance scenes, which opened the era of the fourth generation of idols with their overwhelming performance skills, also raise expectations. ― ITZY's Comment

• JYP Entertainment revealed that as of July 14, CHECKMATE surpassed 700,000 stock pre-orders.
• On Hanteo, it sold 472,394 copies in the first week of its release (July 15 to 21), doubling their personal first-week sale record.
• It debuted at No.8 on Billboard 200, making it the first album by ITZY to chart in the top 10. The album sold 33,000 equivalent album units during the week of July 15-July 21. It spent three consecutive weeks on Billboard 200.
